Job Summary The Unit Manager is responsible for assuring quality resident care while maintaining nursing service objectives and standards of nursing practice in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.
The Unit Manager serves as a resource person in both the clinical and management setting while also acting as a positive clinical role model and effective change agent to ensure optimum delivery of nursing care and services.

Director of Nursing Essential Job Specific Duties/Responsibilities 1) Performs activities related to nursing care needs of residents Gives and receives a thorough report to/from oncoming Supervisor or Unit Manager Conducts daily rounds of unit Assumes clinical responsibilities in the absence of RN/LPN staff nurse Make rounds with physicians and monitors physician documentation for compliance with all applicable regulations and laws.
Utilizes physician file appropriately Monitors daily resident care responsibilities of staff and evaluates delivery of care 2) Documents in accordance with nursing policies and procedures Initiates of required documentation, such as Comprehensive Assessments and Resident Care Plan on admission Attends resident care conferences with RN/LPN staff nurse and STNA Monitors for accuracy/quality of documentation in resident record Monitors and documents accurately all nursing actions implemented as well as effectiveness of implementation in Nursing Notes and Resident Plan of Care Accurately records assessment of physiological and mental dimensions of residents, including pain assessment Documents in EMR accurately, legibly and timely Monitors to see that skin integrity reviews accurately reflect resident and are completed as assigned Documents, at time of service, all medications and treatments administered Documents resident response to non-pharmacological strategies to promote pain relief and resident response to analgesics 3) Maintains effective communication with residents, families, staff, and physicians Keeps Director of Nursing informed regarding any clinical or staff issues Serves as a liaison between administration and the nursing staff Functions in a calm and positive manner in an emergency or crisis situation Places necessary calls to families and physicians.
Monitors for appropriateness of faxing vs.
phone calls to physicians by charge nurse Communicates effectively/appropriately with Medical Director and physicians Reviews and teaches residents and family about pain management, including pain-rating scales and goal setting; importance of aggressive, preventive pain treatment; analgesic misconceptions; and plan for pain management Participates in resident/family teaching and facilitates discharge planning in a timely manner 4) Effectively uses organizational skills in delivery of nursing care Assists staff to prioritize resident care needs Makes, adjusts, and evaluates assignments Facilitates the clinical experience of nursing and nursing assistant students Administers first aid to residents, staff, and visitors when needed 5) Participates in the establishment, implementation, and evaluation of an effective unit performance improvement program Follows up on accident/incident reports appropriately and timely Follows up of resident/family complaints appropriately and timely Participates on the development, implementation, and evaluation of action plan based on any/all survey results Participates in the development of quality performance indicators and the collection of data as assigned by Director of Nursing and/or Administrator 6) Satisfies all educational in-service requirements mandated by CHI Living Communities, the department, external accrediting, and regulatory agencies Attends all mandatory in-service programs Adheres to facility policies and procedures Completes yearly online education program by deadline Attends employee meetings on a regular basis In addition to the essential job specific duties listed above, the Unit Manager shall be required to perform all duties (essential and non-essential) in a manner consistent with the mission and values (compassion, excellence, inclusion, integrity, collaboration) of CHI Living Communities Job Type:
